The coin, pedigreed to the Cardinal Collection, displayed original surfaces with light wear consistent with its grade. Only 1,758 examples were minted in this inaugural year of American dollar coinage.

Bidding Action

Four phone bidders competed aggressively, pushing the hammer price well past the $600,000 pre-sale estimate. The buyer has chosen to remain anonymous.

This result continues the strong trend for early American rarities, which have consistently outperformed market expectations throughout 2024 and into 2025.

The next major early dollar offering comes at Heritage’s FUN Show auction later this month.
